HAPPY

BY TABATHA CHANEY

shiraz, iran

In the back streets of an expansive bazaar in Shiraz, Iran I encountered this Afghani mother and daughter. They watched me compose an architectural shot which I abandoned when I spotted them.

The mother had the loveliest truly happy smile I’ve ever witnessed. She glowed for the few minutes of attention I gave her and the delicate nonverbal pleasantries we could exchange.
